Assembly notes to Parliament from 1865, just two years before the formation of the Canadian government. It requires conservation to ensure the bottom is securely preserved. The artifact appears to be of Algonquin origin from the Pikwakagan First Nation, whose territory stretches across the Ottawa River watershed in Ontario and Quebec. It is exceptionally rare to find a basket of this age with both a documented date and location, making it a significant and invaluable historical treasure.
