Gilbert (Gilly) Dawson, a Kwakwaka'wakw carver born in 1984 in Alert Bay, BC, is the nephew of jewelry carver Johnny Lancaster. His crests include the Wolf, Sun, and Sisiutl. Gilbert began carving in 1995 and has collaborated with distinguished artists such as Beau Dick, Bruce Alfred, Sam Shaughnessy, Don Svanvik, Joe Petersen, and Joe Wilson. Additionally, he has dedicated himself to learning the Kwak'wala language and has mastered over 75 ceremonial songs.
