Gilbert (Gilly) Dawson

Gilbert (Gilly) Dawson, a Kwakwaka'wakw carver born in 1984 in Alert Bay, British Columbia, is Johnny Lancaster's nephew, a renowned jewelry carver. His crests feature the Wolf, Sun, and Sisiutl. Gilbert commenced his carving journey in 1995 and has since worked alongside eminent artists like Beau Dick, Bruce Alfred, Sam Shaughnessy, Don Svanvik, Joe Petersen, and Joe Wilson. He has also committed to learning the Kwak'wala language, mastering over 75 ceremonial songs.

The piece titled "Polychromed Eagle Head with Cedar Rope on a Black Cedar Stand" is crafted from Red Cedar and stands 12 inches tall. The Eagle Head itself measures 12 by 7.5 by 5 inches.
