Chief Sam Johnson, born in 1935 in Kingcome Inlet, British Columbia, is a member of the Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis First Nation (Kwakwaka’wakw Peoples). He is the son of the master carver, Chief Herbert Johnson.
After marrying his wife Lena, he relocated to Gilford Island, where he resided for more than four decades. It was there that his career in carving commenced.
