Cresent Moon Haida Argillite Earrings
Product Type: Jewellery
Amy Edgars is one of a few argillite carvers, born and raised in Haida Gwaii, Masset BC. She started carving at the age of 9 but picked it up full time at 16. She learned how to carve from her late father, Miles Edgars, and Pat Wesley, both master carvers. She carves small earrings, pendants, plaques, to larger sculptures plus totem poles. She has been going on the journey along with her brother's since she was 14 to harvest the Argillite from the mountains. She used to pack it down for her dad until she started carving, it's a tough trip but worth it when the argillite gets to the shop, at this point she starts imagining everything that she will carve. Amy has 3 children, and she hopes they learn how to carve in the footsteps of her and her father to carry the tradition on. Amy says "One of the best things about being a carver was all the time spent with her dad when they got to carve together". Amy plans on learning how to carve wood, silver & gold & welding art in the future. In the all the years Amy has had carving, she has enjoyed every moment of it & feels joy every time she looks at a finished piece.
