Born in 1969, Lyle Campbell hails from the Sta-Sta-aas, Songalth Tribe of the Kaighani Haida people. A member of the Eagle Clan within the Edenshaw (It-in-su) family, he is a descendant of Chief Albert Edward Edenshaw. Lyle began drawing at age eight and took up carving at fourteen. He dedicated two years to studying formal design at the Gitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Art in K’san. Lyle has collaborated with numerous esteemed artists, including Tsimshian artist Henry Green and Haida artist Robert Davidson. His traditional work spans multiple mediums: gold and silver engraving; red cedar, alder, yew, and yellow cedar carving; argillite carving; and print design. Although Lyle is renowned for his wood carving, his talents are remarkably varied, encompassing the creation of silver and gold jewelry, original paintings, and limited-edition prints. After a decade-long break from the art scene, Lyle has reemerged, revitalized as an artist, drawing passion and inspiration from his deep connection to the natural world, the majestic Haida Gwaii, and the Haida People's cultural songs and dances.

In this journey of self-discovery, Lyle has crafted a new style marked by fluid designs, vibrant colors, and a playful, modern twist, while still honoring the traditional Northwest Coast form line. His current work is a celebration of life and his fresh approach to artistry.
