Coast Salish
Squamish First Nation, BC
In 1956, Fredrick Baker was born in Squamish, British Columbia into the Coast Salish Nation. He takes the Bear as his family crest. Fred, already belonging to a family of prominent and proven northwest coast carvers, revealed that it was only natural that he began to carve as a teenager in 1970. He lists his father, Fred Baker Sr. a famed Salish carver and Floyd Joseph as his teachers who provided him with inspiration.
The eagle warrior is portrayed as a warrior metamorphosing into an eagle, supported by a seal or sea lion. This vintage carving boasts a fine patina and is well-crafted.
