Francis Dick, a Kwakwaka’wakw native artist, was born in 1959 into the Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw Band from Kingcome Inlet. She descends from the mythical Wolf, Kawadelekala, who transformed from his animal form to become the progenitor of the Kingcome people.
Spending most of her childhood in Alert Bay, located off the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, Francis later relocated to Victoria to attend the University of Victoria and initially sought a career in social work. However, she soon recognized that her true vocation was to embrace and express her artistic gifts.
