Wonderful Frank Baker Potlatch Ceremonial Hat

This is a rare Frank Baker Potlatch Ceremonial hat that was created for a 2015 Potlatch in Alert Bay, only 100 hats were gifted at the ceremony.

This hat features a hand-painted Sisiutl design completed by family members. The Sisiutl a powerful supernatural being of the traditions of the Kwakwaka'wakw and other Northwest Coast Indigenous nations. It is typically depicted as a double-headed sea serpent, sometimes with a central human face, symbolizing protection, transformation, and spiritual strength.

The Sisiutl features prominently in North Coast art, dances, and songs, and is closely linked to shamans as a bridge between the supernatural and natural worlds.
