Eric Parnell was born in 1961 in the coastal village of Prince Rupert, nestled on British Columbia’s North Coast. He spent his formative years in Masset, Haida Gwaii, where he immersed himself in the traditional styles of Haida art and closely observed emerging carvers and artists as they honed their craft.

Reflecting on his journey, Eric shares, “My passion for the art came early, but my career came late.”

It wasn’t until 2002, while living in Vancouver, that a chance reunion with old friends—now established artists—sparked his transition from student to practitioner. With their encouragement, Eric began to channel the knowledge and inspiration of his youth into a thriving artistic practice.

Today, his intricate drawings and paintings are showcased in numerous Vancouver galleries. Through meticulous lines and vivid storytelling, he brings to life the ancient myths and crest symbols of his heritage.
