George Manson

George Manson is Nuu-chah-nulth from Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Manson lives in his home community of Ty-Histanis (Long Beach) where he is surrounded by nature. The Pacific Ocean is his view everyday with the majestic towering spruce and cedar trees to his back. Home of the eagle, whale, wolf, fish, ravens, and other familiar inspirations to keep Manson’s carvings unique. He transforms these everyday images to traditional First Nation legends on wood. Remembering the stories he was taught by elders gives him a grounding knowledge of the art as it is transformed with the skill George has perfected and continues to do so.

The Hummingbird represents peace, wonder, love, and healing. It teaches us to appreciate the miracle of life and encourages a focus on the positive aspects of our existence. As a joyful messenger, the Hummingbird bridges the human and spirit worlds. Its appearance heralds comfort and healing, symbolizing the delicate balance of nature and the vulnerability of all living things.

A fine large Hummingbird carving with deep cuts adding to the overall beauty of the piece, truly a stunning Westcoast work of art.
