Morris Johnny, who hails from the Kwakwaka’wakw and Cowichan First Nations, has resided in Alert Bay since 1998. He has honed his carving skills with mentors like Aubrey Johnston and Marcus Alfred, while also valuing the teachings of Stephen Bruce. Morris attributes his artistry to his heritage, upholding the traditional carving practices passed down in his family. The family crest he bears features the toothed Thunderbird, the Killer Whale, and the Grizzly Bear.
