Raven's Feather
Product Type: Carving
Derek's paternal heritage traces to the Xwémalhkwu Homalco First Nation in Wei Wai Kum (Campbell River, B.C.), while his maternal lineage connects to Witset (Moricetown), near the traditional territory of the Gidimt'en and Wet'suwet'en peoples (Smithers).
Among his earliest works is a striking red cedar raven mask adorned with long cedar strips and featuring a mouth that clacks when a string is pulled. Derek has brought this piece to gatherings and protests, including the Idle No More rally in ch'atlich in January 2013 and a Truth and Reconciliation Day walk in Musqueam/Squamish/Tsleil-Waututh territories (Vancouver).
The "Raven's Feather" is a breathtaking masterpiece of craftsmanship, captivating all who encounter it with its intricate detail and striking presence. Its design commands attention, drawing the eye and sparking admiration for its artistry and elegance. Measuring an impressive 58 inches by 12 inches, this remarkable creation combines bold dimensions with exquisite workmanship, making it an unforgettable centerpiece.
