Morris Johnny, a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw and Cowichan First Nations, has lived in Alert Bay since 1998. He refined his carving skills under the guidance of mentors such as Aubrey Johnston and Marcus Alfred, while also cherishing the teachings of Stephen Bruce. Deeply rooted in his heritage, Morris preserves the traditional carving practices passed down through his family. His family crest depicts the toothed Thunderbird, the Killer Whale, and the Grizzly Bear.
A stunning fine carving in red cedar portrays the white raven, accented with white cedar rope and highlighted by a 2-inch New Zealand Paua shell eye.
