Morris Johnny, a proud member of the Kwakwaka’wakw and Cowichan First Nations, has made Alert Bay his home since 1998. Over the years, he has passionately refined his carving skills under the guidance of esteemed mentors such as Aubrey Johnston and Marcus Alfred, while deeply appreciating the wisdom imparted by Stephen Bruce. His artistic expression is deeply rooted in his rich cultural heritage, honoring the traditional carving techniques that have been passed down through generations in his family. Embodying this heritage, his family crest magnificently showcases the powerful toothed Thunderbird, the majestic Killer Whale, and the formidable Grizzly Bear.
