Gilbert (Gilly) Dawson, a Kwakwaka'wakw carver born in 1984 in Alert Bay, British Columbia, is Johnny Lancaster's nephew, a renowned jewelry carver. His crests feature the Wolf, Sun, and Sisiutl. Gilbert commenced his carving journey in 1995 and has since worked alongside eminent artists like Beau Dick, Bruce Alfred, Sam Shaughnessy, Don Svanvik, Joe Petersen, and Joe Wilson. He has also committed to learning the Kwak'wala language, mastering over 75 ceremonial songs.
