Product Type: Carving

Born in Victoria, BC in 1970, Jay, a proud Métis, began carving at the age of eight under the guidance of his father, Gene Brabant, who had learned from John Livingstone and Tony Hunt through the Arts of The Raven Program in the early 1970s. Jay works with diverse materials including wood, metal, shell, and paper, with a primary focus on red and yellow cedar, as well as alder and spruce. Trained in the Kwakwaka’wakw style, he also frequently incorporates classical Nuxalk (Bella Coola), Tlingit, and Haida styles into his work. He has mastered the traditional shapes and form-lines that embody the historical significance and stories of each piece, approaching them with deep respect and meticulous detail. Jay primarily creates original Northwest Coast Indigenous art and is occasionally commissioned to craft pieces inspired by historic masterworks.

A beautifully painted round Raven Mask in traditional red and black, featuring two ravens alongside a transformative human mask that highlights the symbolic relationship between ravens and humans. Crafted with precision and masterfully finished, this striking piece measures 25 inches in diameter and is completed with a jute rope finish.
