Russell Tate hails from the Ditidaht First Nation, located on the southwest coast of Vancouver Island. He began carving in 2004, drawing inspiration from artists like Art Thompson and those featured on the show "Ravens and Eagles." Primarily self-taught, he honed his skills in wood artistry, focusing on masks and paddles. His repertoire has expanded to include small poles, miniatures, and regalia. Among the artists he has collaborated with are Ben David and Cecil Dawson, with whom he has co-created several works.
