Peter Smith
Peter Smith, born in Vancouver in 1972, is a Kwakwaka'wakw artist who began carving in 1995. His indigenous name, Giq-Kalas, translates to "Sons of Great Importance." He honed his craft under the tutelage of master carvers Simon Dick and Simon James, cultivating a unique style that honors the traditions of his culture. Additionally, Sonija Triebwasser taught him the art of crafting northwest coast silver jewelry.
