Rande Cook, also known as Galapa, was born in 1977 in Alert Bay, a quaint fishing village at the northern tip of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. He hails from the Namgis, Maamtagila, and Mamalilikala tribes. Raised by his grandparents, Gus and Florence Matilpi, he was deeply immersed in his cultural heritage from a young age. This profound familial bond with their traditions fostered Rande's own strong affinity for traditional arts, and he aspired to become an artist since his early years.
