Norman Seaweed was born in Alert Bay, a charming fishing village on the northeastern coast of Vancouver Island. This area is home to the Kwagiulth Nation, a tribe mainly based in the southern part of the province. His mother’s roots trace back to Village Island, while his father’s family comes from Turnour Island. In 1978, Norman studied jewelry carving under Lloyd Wadhams. His passion for drawing led him to explore wood carving and eventually work with silver and gold. Norman’s brothers, Alfred, Paddy, and Rodney, are also talented silver carvers.
