Trevor Angus, also known as Tka’ast from the House of Wiiminoosik, is a Gitxsan/Tsimshian artist from Kispiox, British Columbia. He began carving in the 4th grade under Victor Mowatt of Gitanmaax, who continued to mentor him through high school. Trevor was accepted into the Gitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Indian Art at K’san in Hazelton, BC, where he studied with Master Carvers Ken Mowatt and Vernon Stephens. In 1998, he completed a four-year program, mastering the art of designing and carving panels, masks, rattles, paddles, ladles, and steam bentwood boxes. After graduation, Trevor apprenticed with Phillip Janze to refine his skills in gold and silver jewelry engraving. He also worked alongside renowned artists like Shawn Edenshaw, Robert Tait, Earl Muldon, and the late Harris Smith. Trevor specializes in creating cedar wood panels with traditional K’san style and design, producing thoughtful, consistent, and deeply etched works. He now lives and carves full-time in Vancouver.
