Mike Bellis is a Haida artist born in Victoria, BC in 1973. He is inspired by Haida 
mythology and culture, and interprets that through his own interactions with the 
natural world. Working mostly with red and yellow cedar, Bellis enjoys combining 
the time-honored beauty of traditional Haida art with contemporary shapes, 
colors, and design.  
Bellis hails from a family with multiple generations of Haida artists. His father John 
Bellis has been instrumental in passing on knowledge of traditional Haida design. 
Master carver Bill Bellis is his cousin, and captain Andrew Brown is his great 
grandfather. 
Bellis is a citizen of the Haida Nation of Old Massett, and was born into the Eagle 
Clan.
