Salish artist David "Dave" Louis, born in 1969, has over two decades of carving experience, cultivating a unique style. His mother was Squamish and his father Musqueam. He honed his skills by observing and emulating his father, as well as carvers like Dave Nahani, Edmund Williams, Darren Lewis, Peter Charlie, and William Watts.
Residing on the Musqueam reserve within Coast Salish lands, he is an active longhouse dancer and has been bestowed with the Musqueam name 'Gush-tane-m' and the Kwakwaka'wakw name 'Numigalas'. Louis specializes in crafting masks, totem poles, and plaques.
