Raven Dancer

Bradley Joseph Senior is from Squamish Nation. Born Sept 3/1959. He started by learning to draw at the age of 9 years old, then picked up my first piece of wood at the age of 12 years old.

I’ve been carving for a little over 50 years. His mentors have been his father late Stanley Joseph Sr. and my older brothers. I have 7 brothers, all of us are artists with 6 of us carvers and 1 painter. Bradley carves in yellow and red cedar.

There are so many carvings he has done over the years and he says would says proud of every one of them. I do remember being proud of helping my older brother Stanley Joseph Jr carve his totem poles. He was inspired by watching my father and brothers.

He's proud to be Coast Salish of the Squamish Nation member, I am proud to have been taught to work with wood and to pass on my teachings to other young people over the years. I have 2 boys who I have taught them, both the same way I was taught, to carry on the same traditions.
